The Biblical Garden

The Kavanaugh UMC Biblical Garden is designed to bring the Bible to life through God’s green and growing things. Filled with plants mentioned in the Bible, it’s a lovely, serene place that provides inspiration, education, and pleasure to all who stroll its paths or spend a few moments in quiet contemplation.

The Biblical Garden

The Kavanaugh Biblical Garden is open to the public – everyone is welcome to wander the garden with Bible in hand, studying the plants, or to sit quietly and just enjoy its peaceful beauty.

Spring in the Biblical GardenThe Garden is in the heart of Greenville at the corner of Johnson and Park Streets, just east of the church. It was researched and designed by Kavanaugh member and neighbor Pud Kearns, an experienced garden designer, and executed with the help of friends and church members.

“God’s Gardeners” divided the space into 3 major areas:

The Old Testament Garden
The New Testament Garden
The Gazebo Lawn

A surprisingly extensive list of trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, and grains is mentioned in the Bible. These plants were important in the daily lives of the people whose stories are told through the scriptures. In some cases, where the exact plants from Biblical times are unsuited to growing in our area, their botanical “cousins” have been used.
